Welcome to the home page of the American Institute for Verdi Studies, one of the world's leading research centers for the life and works of Giuseppe Verdi.  Inaugurated at New York University in 1976, the AIVS  promotes conferences, lectures, performances, and publications; it publishes the Verdi Forum, the only English-language journal devoted to Verdi; it consults with leading performers and operatic institutions; and it provides support for a variety of scholarly endeavors and projects, including the ongoing publication of the Works of Giuseppe Verdi in critical edition (University of Chicago Press and Ricordi).

The AIVS is also known for its Archive, which houses the largest collections of microfilmed Verdi materials in the world.  Students, scholars and performers from around the world visit the AIVS Archive to access rare manuscript and printed scores, thousands of librettos, vast amounts of correspondence and archival records, stage and costume designs, and 19th-century periodicals.  The AIVS Archive is located in the Elmer Holmes Bobst Library at New York University.
